Police in Tsirang detained two cashiers of the Bhutan Development Bank Limited’s (BDBL) branch office on March 21.
They were arrested for alleged forgery and tampering of clients’ bankbooks and embezzling their money.
So far, the bank’s internal audit team investigating the case, found the duo allegedly embezzled over Nu 18 M since 2012.
The case first surfaced when a client had come to withdraw money from the bank and found the account empty.
Over 60 clients lodged complaints with the bank regarding missing money in their accounts.
