For the first time, an international football academy has hired a Bhutanese coach. Chencho Dorji was officially introduced as the new youth coach for FC Imphal City yesterday. FC Imphal City is an All India Football Federation accredited Football academy based in Manipur.

After the Bhutanese internationals Lhendup Dorji and Chencho Gyeltshen’s recent appearance in the Indian Football Leagues, it is now time for Chencho Dorji.

The management of FC Imphal City welcomed the AFC A licensed coach as he arrived in Manipur on Monday.

Speaking to some Indian media groups, Coach Chencho said he is happy to be in Manipur. “I am aware of Manipur and its football for a long time.”

The Bhutanese coach said he looks forward to contributing towards the growth of football in the region.

Having held several coaching positions in Bhutanese Youth’s National setups, the 39-year-old from Monggar has been coaching at the youth level for more than a decade now.

Chencho Dorji has also led the U-16 national team in the AFC U-16  Qualifier 2018 held in Iran. Along with it, Chencho is also an AFC Level 1 goalkeeping coach who has also completed AFC Fitness Level 1 course.

According to the FC Imphal City’s press release, Chencho Dorji will begin training with the academy boys starting from next week.
