Absence of a road is not the only problem faced by the villagers of Tsuendugang under Naja Gewog in Paro. The villagers are also deprived with water for drinking and irrigation purposes. The villagers have to walk for almost an hour to fetch water from an open source. They said even after walking for hours, the water at the source is not sufficient.
During rainy season, villagers say it is risky to fetch water alone. They encounter wild animals on the way. Therefore, our reporter Chimi Dorji in Paro says people go in groups. Maintaining cleanliness is another problem faced by the villagers due to scarce water.
Tsuendugang village, though it has a fertile land, due to shortage of water, people have to depend on rain water for irrigation. And when there is untimely rainfall, farmers are not able to transplant their paddy on time.
The issue was raised at the Dzongkhag Tshogdu meeting. The meeting decided and allocated a budget of Nu. 1.5 million for construction of irrigation channel in the village. Since the amount was not enough, a budget proposal was submitted to the agriculture ministry.
The villagers are of the opinion that if they have proper water for irrigation purposes, then the problem of drinking water will be solved to some extent.
Tsuendugang village has 24 households.
