108th National Day celebration held in Paro

20151217-907A9853The 108th National Day celebration was held in Paro, today. His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo graced the occasion. Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, Their Majesties the Queen Mothers, Members of the Royal Family, and other senior Dignitaries were also present.

Thousands of people gathered at the Ugyen Pelri palace to partake in the celebration.

The festivities started off with the traditional Chipdrel Reception of the Guests of Honor, His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

Various cultural programs were also performed to celebrate the day.

One of the highlights, which raised the excitement of the public, was the lottery draw. Various prizes ranging from mobile phones, to Jersey Cows, winnower machines and power tillers were given out to lucky winners.

Thousands of people from within and outside the Dzongkhag also came together to mark the day.

Celebrations to observe the days were also held in other parts of the country.

The day is celebrated to mark Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck’s ascension to the throne as the First Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan.
