About 150 households in Samtse do not have a Thram or land registration certificate in their name. Most of these households have got land under the resettlement scheme.
This was found out during the national cadastral resurvey in the Dzongkhag. The survey was started from September last year and is expected to complete soon.
Some of the people who received land under resettlement scheme in Samtse are worried for not having a Thram in their name.
“Previous survey has not documented our land record properly while carrying out the survey. Most of our documents are found missing and that’s why we did not get our thram,” says Kinley Wangmo from Ugyentse Gewog.
The Secretary of the National Land commission, Dasho Sangay Khandu, said that the people applied for Kidu land under the government resettlement scheme by looking at future benefits. “As per the Land Act people must compulsory settle and make use of land properly. But many people have not done that. They did not settle after availing the Kidu land from the government and did not bother to process for transferring the Thram in their name. That’s why people did not get Thram,” reasoned the Secretary.
He added that people failing to settle and leaving the land fallow might lead to cancellation of their land as per the Land Act.
Samtse Dzongkhag has 15 Gewogs.
The next cadastral resurvey will be carried out in Samdrup Jongkhar.
