The people of Yangbari, Baagla and Pangthang of Gongdu Gewog, Monggar want motorable bridges over the Gobari and Semdhari streams.
A temporary wooden bridge over Gobari chhu connects the residents of Salibi and Pangthang villages in Gongdue gewog. But the bridge is in a poor condition.
It has become unsafe for people to drive over it.
Fearing the bridge might collapse, even the locals wade through the stream. But this is dangerous in summer when the stream swells.
“We face lots of difficulties. Even vehicles cannot cross over easily in summer. We would be grateful if a motorable bridge is constructed over the river,” Norbu Wangdi from Yangbari village said.
“A road has been constructed till our village. We would be grateful if a bridge is also built over the river because we face lots of difficulties without one, especially during summer,” Leki Chezom from Baagla village said.
A 16-kilometer-farm road was constructed in 2015 to connect the two villages of Semdaring and Baagla.
Salibi and Pangthang villages are also connected by another 16-kilometer farm road constructed in 2016.
But the construction of bridges over the two streams, which lie in between the two stretches of roads, could not be started due to budget constraints.
The locals now hope the new government would fulfill their dream.
“We could not construct motorable bridges in a few of the chiwogs due to lack of funds. But we were able to build temporary bridges there although they are now in bad condition and in need of repair. However, we have to plans to construct new bridges over the rivers in the 12th Five-Year Plan,” Pema Dechen, the Gondgu Gewog Administrative Officer, said.
Gongdue is one of the most remote gewogs in Monggar. It is ocated more than a hundred kilometers away from Monggar town.
