Almost 85,000 voters exercised their adult franchise at PBFBs, mobile booths

From October 10-12, 84,829 voters exercised their adult franchise through Postal Ballot Facilitation Booths (PBFBs) and mobile booth facility for the general round of the National Assembly (NA) elections.

The voter turnout was almost 83 per cent, which is an increase of a little over five per cent compared to the primary round.  The total number of registered voters was 102,363.

During the primary round, nearly 80,000 of total 102,531 registered voters used the service. Gender wise- 44,053 women and 35,462 men used the facility.

This time, 46,358 female and 38,471 have cast their votes at Postal Ballot Facilitation Booths and through mobile booths. The total number of electorate who refrained from casting a vote stands at 17,534.

Dzongkhag wise, Lhuentse Dzongkhag saw the highest turnout at 95.8 per cent, closely followed by Tsirang.

Of the total 970 registered voters, 929 showed up in Lhuentse. As for Tsirang, 1264 of the total 1343 registered voters participated in the electoral process at Postal Ballot Facilitation Booths and through mobile booths.

The third highest voter turnout was in Bumthang at almost 90 per cent. There, 2276 voters of total 2508 came to cast their votes.

The Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) operated 64 postal ballot facilitation booths across the country.

A news release from the ECB says, “At the end of each day, the postal ballots were handed over to Bhutan Post for delivery to respective returning officers for counting on the Poll Day, which is on October 18.”
