The Monggar district court convicted a 22-year-old man to nine years and three months imprisonment for stabbing a 19-year-old student to death. The convict has also been asked to pay Nu. 106,300 as compensation to the deceased’s family.

He was charged under two criminal offenses. Nine years for stabbing the teenager to death and three months for substance abuse during the time of the incident.

The incident took place in Gyalpoizhing earlier this year. It all happened because of a bicycle. The accused rode off with the deceased’s bicycle. When he did not return, the deceased and his younger brother went looking for the suspect. After they found him, a brawl broke out among them.  The teenager was stabbed on his neck and shoulder.

The deceased was a student of Dechencholing Middle Secondary School in Thimphu. He was on winter break at his elder brother’s place in Gyalpoizhing
