DNT president says chances of winning from the east looks slim

DNT President speaking to people of Trashi Yangtse

The President of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT), Lotay Tshering, said winning in the east looks difficult, particularly Pema Gatshel, in the general election despite having capable candidates from all three constituencies.

He said this at a campaign meeting with the people of Trashi Yangtse on Monday.

Judging by the past elections and also the recent primary round election, the DNT president said the chances of his party winning in Pema Gatshel appear slim.

“Candidates are not important for them. They vote for party. Going by this trend, DPT does not have to worry about how good or bad their candidates from the dzongkhag are. Anyone can represent them. Such a trend will make other parties disinterested in declaring good candidates to represent them from Pema Gatshel,” he said

He said he visited the district just to share his concerns and views.

He added there are several other districts in the east that are die-hard supporters of DPT.

“Only DPT exists for them. They vote along the regional lines and I urged them not to do so,” the DNT president said.

The DNT president told the gathering in Trashi Yangtse that it is important for an elected government to have representatives from all the regions of the country to promote balanced regional development.
