A total of 51 candidates of Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) and Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) have applied for campaign fund as of today. The election commission has accordingly released Nu 150,000 to each candidate.

The fund released to 51 candidates today amounted to over Nu 7.6 M.

The individual campaign fund of Nu 150,000 is an increase of Nu 20,000 from the second parliamentary election.

In total, the campaign funds for the general round will cost the nation more than Nu 14 M.

The campaign fund is to be used for direct campaign purposes, which include meeting daily travel and communication expenses, and purchase of campaign materials.

The election act allows parties to provide an additional campaign fund equivalent of the state fund provided by the ECB to each candidate.

However, the general secretaries of both DNT and DPT said they have not yet decided anything on providing an additional fund to its candidates.
