Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) will not replace any of its candidates for the general round of National Assembly Elections. They will stick with its initial 47 candidates who represented the party in the primary round.

This was decided unanimously at the party’s senior management meeting yesterday.

Despite proposals from the party coordinators and supporters for the replacement for some of their candidates, the party decided not to do so.

They said they have a good team in both in terms of experience and qualifications.

DPT’s General Secretary Sangay Phurba said changing their candidature is totally against the party’s principle of equity and justice.

For them, winning in a free and fair manner is more important. He added some of the younger candidates came forward requesting the party to change their candidature.

“It is quite amazing how they think. Considering the larger picture and for the benefit of the party, they actually wanted to be replaced. But we have requested them to stay on because they are also equally  good.”

The candidates are now readying to file in their nominations.

By  September 22, the scrutiny of the nominations of the candidates will start following which the candidates will submit their application for the campaign fund.
