Windstorm damages Gomdar school

A windstorm on Wednesday evening has caused damages to Gomdar Lower Secondary school in Samdrup Jongkhar. According to the school authorities sudden gust of wind at around 6.30 pm brought down the roof of the old academic building and staff quarter.

The new school toilet, which is yet to be handed over to the school, is also damaged while the old one is completely damaged and cannot be used.

The school principal said no was injured since it happened during dinnertime when students were inside the dining hall. As many as ten trees in the school premises have also been uprooted.

Gomdar School has more than 400 students. More than 200 stay are boarding students.

The roof of the old RNR building close to the school was completely blown-off. The school authorities are waiting for the investigation team to arrive fromthe Dzongkhag.

The Gomdar Gup said there were also damages done in Barzor community primary school under the Gewog. He added that reports are coming in from some villages with minor damages.
