The Paro International Airport inaugurated four new structures- parallel taxiway, modified departure terminal, cargo complex and substation building, yesterday.
The structures worth Nu 440.45 M were built and modified as part of a project funded by Government of India.
The new infrastructure is expected to help in improving the airport’s ability to handle more number of aircrafts and passengers.
The parallel taxiway was built at a cost of over Nu 193 M. It will be used when a plane prepares to take-off to reach the end of the runway without having to wait for another flight, which is about to touch down.
The re-modified departure terminal has more check-out counters. It was constructed at a cost of over Nu 164 M.
The airport’s new cargo terminal is equipped with all the required facilities, while the substation was relocated to expand the parking space near the arrival terminal.
The Paro International Airport started its operation in 1983.
