More than 50 households in Tashiling Demkhong under Gelegphu Thromde in Sarpang have been without electricity for three days now. The power blackout has been caused by a damage to an underground power cable.
The 11kV underground cable got damaged due to the road and sewerage construction and water supply connection works underway in the area.
Living without power supply is an ordeal with scorching heat around this time of the year. Residents fear they could get malaria and dengue fever as it’s too hot to use mosquito nets without a fan.
“It is very hot and without electricity we are also not even able to pump water,” Dechen Dema, one of the residents, said.
“We can’t sleep at night and it is difficult for the children to study,” Tulsi Kumar, another resident, said.
The Gelegphu Thromde says they are working with the Bhutan Power Corporation to restore electricity in the area soon.
Tashiling Demkhong is about two and a half kilometre away from Geleghu town.
