PM delivers keynote address at 15th United Nations Vesak Day 2018 Conference in Thailand

Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay participated in the 15th United Nations Vesak Day 2018 conference in Thailand on Friday. He delivered the keynote address on the theme- Buddhist contribution for Human Development.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister spoke on Bhutan’s spiritual background and its significance for human development, leadership, and governance. He said the concept of Buddhist ruler has been an inspiration among Bhutanese monarchs as well. He also spoke on how the ideals of governance that drew on both science and Buddhism for Bhutan was formulated by His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo as Gross National Happiness (GNH).

Later in the afternoon, Prime Minister called on the Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-o-cha. He conveyed warm greetings of His Majesty The King and thanked the Royal Thai Government for the warm reception of Their Majesties and His Royal Highness The Gyalsey recently.

The two Prime Ministers exchanged views on strengthening wide ranging bilateral and regional cooperation.

Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay has arrived back in the country yesterday.
