One Click Shop wins best business idea

One Click Shop, a business idea that aims to make grocery shopping just a click away, has took the best business prize at the Seventh Business Idea Competition of Bhutan (BICOB).

The BICOB, an annual event, is aimed at inspiring and encouraging aspiring entrepreneurs, and promote innovation for gainful employment.

Three young aspiring entrepreneurs, all in their mid-20s, put their heads together to come up with One Click Shop, a web-based shopping centre idea.

“The government has done so many things for me and why would I still want to depend on the government,” Rohit Upreti, one of them said.

“Rather than being a problem, or always identifying problems, I thought why not I become the solution and my friends share the same idea.”

125 entries were submitted for the idea stage category.

The Chief Executive Officer of TechPark said the platform helps promote young business minds. However, he said a business idea’s real worth lies in its successful execution, not in the ideas itself.

“If your idea doesn’t win a price today it does not mean your idea is inferior. It is just a matter of perception of the judges that you did not make it to the winners list,” CEO Tshering Cigay Dorj said.

“Your idea may be able to make more money or make the biggest difference to the society in the end. Therefore, the real winners will be those who execute their ideas successfully.”

Therefore, the entrepreneurs who have already executed their business ideas were also awarded prizes. In the start-up category, Green Vibes Bhutan, a fresh juice company offering smoothies and juices, took the first prize.

This year, a special prize of Nu 25,000 was also kept for students to raise awareness on entrepreneurship among the high school students.

Currently, more than 30 business ideas submitted to BICOB are under various stages of execution since it was first organised in 2012.
