His Majesty The King granted an audience to 154 ex-country undergraduate scholarship recipients of 2017 yesterday.
The students excelled in their class 12 examinations and hail from 58 higher secondary schools in the country.
They will undertake undergraduate studies in various fields under government scholarships.
While most of them will study in India, some will head to the US, Canada, the UK, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The Department of Adult and Higher Education (DAHE) said the areas of study and slots were decided based on the requirements submitted by the labor ministry and the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC).
“They are mostly in the field of medicine, engineering and generic studies,” Kesang Choden Dorji, the Director of DAHE said.
Over 10,000 students sat for the Bhutan Higher Secondary Examination Certificate (BHSEC) last year.
