OAG to present evidence for chorten vandalism case in Samdrup Jongkhar court.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) will soon be presenting evidence regarding the chorten vandalism case in Samdrup Jongkhar district court.

A man, 39, is charged for offence against the Ku, Sung, Thuk-Ten, or Zung.

The OAG prosecutor will present the seized items before the court of law to prove the crime committed by the suspect. The items were seized from the suspect.

The case was forwarded to the court last month.

The suspect, a driver from Monggar is accused of vandalising a Jangchub Chorten at Tsholingkhar under Martshala Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar in May, last year. The villagers suspected him of the crime but could not ascertain due to lack of evidence.

However, some six months later, the wife of the accused reported to the local leaders about the suspicious activity at home by the accused.

Police charged the wife for failing to report the crime. But it was dropped by the Office of the Attorney General.

The accused had confessed to the crime before the court of law.

According to the Penal Code of Bhutan 2004, offence against the Ku, Sung, Thuk-Ten, or Zung is a felony of first degree where a suspect could be sentenced to prison for a minimum of 15 years to life, if found guilty.
