OAG rebuts Chang Gup over govt. land encroachment case

Thimphu District Court

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) submitted their rebuttal against Chang Gup Kanjur and former Dzongkhag Land Record Officer Karma Jamtsho yesterday.

The Gup faces multiple charges over an alleged government land encroachment case. He is charged with forgery, deceptive practice, official misconduct and making false map and Thram.

He is accused of having encroached on a 3.72 acre government land from the public pasture land at Depsi in Thimphu between 2000 and 2005.

The OAG said the Gup had surveyed the encroached land, illegally registered it in his mother’s name and acquired benefits by selling it to other people.

Chang Gup Kanjur, however, denies the allegations and said it was all done as per the law.

The former Dzongkhag Land Record Officer Karma Jamtsho, meanwhile, is charged with official misconduct for helping register a 35 decimal of government land. He too denies the charges against him.

The prosecutor requested the court to penalise the accused if they fail to submit reasonable proof to overrule the charges.

The Gup was suspended from work since October last year.
