The newly blacktopped Gewog Centre or GC road in Thrimshing Gewog of Trashigang has brought smiles on the faces of villagers. They have now become ambitious to try out commercial farming on a vast scale to uplift their livelihoods.
The blacktopped road will facilitate the farmers to take their crops for sale in other places. Villagers are also happy that they will not be greeted by bumps and gravels along the 15-kilometre GC road.
“Earlier, the thought of traveling irritates us since we have to endure bumpy rides. But now, we can feel the comfort traveling on the paved road. We are also motivated to boost our agricultural operations,” said one of the farmers, Pelzang.
Gewog officials also said, travel time from Thrimshing to Wamrong is just half an hour journey. Previously, it took an hour to reach Wamrong.
The Government of India funded the blacktopping project, which was worth over Nu 50 M. Likewise, blacktopping of the 38- kilometre Kangpar GC was completed recently. It opened to traffic last week.
