Zhemgang town’s lone hairdresser does brisk business

Meet Deepak Darjee, the man behind Zhemgang town’s only hair salon. The 21-year-old young man took risk to start a hair salon business in the town, a decision he does not regret.

After graduating from high school, Deepak went on to learn hair and skin care in Thimphu a year ago. This is how his journey to becoming a hairdresser began.

Following the training, he knew exactly where to begin his career. “I chose Zhemgang because I have seen people from here travelling all the way to Gelegphu just to get a haircut,” said Deepak.

There, obviously, is no dearth of customers. He has people coming from as far as Buli, Tingtibi and Trongsa to get a haircut.

Deepak is hoping the business to get even better with the commencement of the 770 MW Chamkharchhu Hydro Power Project.

Zhemgang town currently is home to about three thousand people. The sleepy little town is expected to spring to life when the hydropower project works begin.

This means Deepak’s hair salon is not only here to stay but also to grow into something bigger.
