Lack of parking irks Phuentshogling’s vegetable vendors

Vegetable vendors in Phuentshogling claim that the recent allocation of taxi parking near the vegetable market is affecting their business.

The taxi parking has been shifted to the space near the vegetable market some five days ago as a multi-storey parking is being constructed near the old taxi parking area.

“After the taxis started parking here, it has affected our business,” one of the vendors Tshering Dema said. “This is because private vehicles are not allowed here,” she added.

“People now prefer to buy vegetables from Jaigaon due to lack of parking here,” shared another vendor, Changlam.

Earlier, people who come to buy vegetables park their cars in the space near the vegetable market. But not anymore. “Now even the vehicles with loads are not allowed in the area,” said a vendor.

According to Phuentshogling’s Thromde officials, until the construction of multi-storey car parking near the old taxi parking completes, people will have to use the parking near the vegetable market. Once complete, the multi level car parking will house nearly 200 cars. The construction is expected to complete by the end of this year.
