Parliament endorses to audit Chiphen Rigphel Project

Parliament endorses to audit Chiphen Rigphel ProjectParliament’s Joint Sitting today endorsed the Public Accounts Committee’s recommendation to conduct supplementary audit of Chiphen Rigphel Project.

Of the 68 MPs present, 49 voted in favour of the recommendation.

PAC had recommended that Chiphen Rigphel Project, launched in April 2010, be audited as the process of handling approved cost for the project was not clear.

The joint-committee had also said the financial audit of the project was last conducted in 2011-12.

Some Members of Parliament pointed out that the Indian-assisted project, implemented by the National Institute for Information and Technology (NIIT), did not exhaust Nu 2 B, funded by the Government of India.

The project phased out in 2015.

The recommendations also include depositing Nu 21.2 M to Royal Audit Authority’s account that the information and communications ministry had assured to recover from NIIT.

The amount is the service tax.
