There was a drop of 13 percent crime rate in the country in 2015 as compared to 2014. From 2,367 cases in 2014 the number decreased to 2,055, last year.

During their annual press conference, held in Thimphu, this morning, the police chief, Kipchu Namgyel said the police alone would not have been able to reduce the crime rate without the support from the general public.

“We have two levels of partnership, which include PYPP and Police and Out of School Youth Partnership Program,” said the police chief. He said it was their continuous support which made it feasible for the police to bring down the number of crime. “The other is Police Public Partnership Program that is Friends of Police. Dessups also play an important role and the community as well.”

Police chief also said media plays a vital role in preventing and reducing crime in the country.
