Prosecution of DPT’s defamation case against Dasho Benji delayed

Prosecution of DPT’s defamation case against Dasho Benji delayedThe Thimphu District Court will most probably decide next month whether to continue prosecuting the case between Dasho Paljor J. Dorji popularly known as Dasho Benji and Druk Phuensum Tshogpa. Thimphu District Court was to decide in June if they were to continue to hear the case.

It was the verification of evidence, submitted by Dasho Benji’s Legal Representative, which caused the delay in the prosecution. The court took time to verify a video clip of DPT’s convention held after 2013 elections.

The Legal Representative had submitted the clip to prove DPT is a seditious party. The court’s verification proved that the clip submitted was not found in the original recordings.

Other causes of delay include domestic matters of people involved in the case.

In April this year, after several court hearings, Druk Phuensum Tshogpa had submitted to the court to withdraw the case against Dasho Benji. But, Dasho Benji did not agree with the party’s decision.

In September last year, DPT filed a libel lawsuit against Dasho Denji accusing him of posting a defamatory statement, “having robbed the country blind”, against the party on Facebook.
