Institutions lack effective monitoring to combat corruption: ACC

ACC- Institutions lack effective monitoring to combat corruptionBhutanese institutions and agencies lack effective monitoring system to curb corruption, says Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

A survey conducted by the ACC says Bhutanese institutions and agencies hesitate to counter corruption efforts and are less likely to raise objection against such practice.

“There is a weak whistle-blowing system to monitor such practices.”

ACC also says tolerance for inefficiency, lack of persistent efforts to fight corruption and weak accountability are not in place.

“With proper system in place, some administrative complaints that are forwarded to ACC can be dealt within the institutions and agencies themselves.”

ACC’s Annual report 2014 stresses the need for an effective monitoring mechanism in institutions and agencies to combat corruption. The report states, corruption occurs because of absence of internal governing system and co-ordination within agencies and institutions.
