Trongsa town expands to Sherabling

Trongsa town expands to SherablingEver since Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority and Nikachu Hydropower Project began, Trongsa Dzongkhag is seeing an increasing population.

Many feel they now need a planned town with the existing residential houses filled to the brim in Trongsa town. Apart from housing crunch, they also face parking congestion, among others.

However, given the landscape and topography there is not much room for the town to expand. As a result residential and institutional offices have slowly started mushrooming in Sherabling, a little away from the present town.

Sherabling’s structural plan is ready and boundary demarcated for the new town development.

The Dzongkhag Tshogdu Chairman, Tashi Pelden said Trongsa does not need a town plan like other dzongkhags. “But it should be enough to cater to the need of increasing population.”

He said they would like to build the town slowly by giving interested individuals permission to construct houses.

But, the present town will remain as the main commercial hub for the dzongkhag. Sherubling will be expanded for residential and institutions.

The District Engineer, Pasang Dorji, said since most of the land in sherabling belongs to private individuals, land pooling will be conducted after which the Local Area Plan will be developed.
