EU’s Development Cooperation Commissioner calls on PM

PM-EU Commissioner-The European Union Commissioner for Development Cooperation, Andris Piebalgs called on the Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, today.

“Bhutan has benefited a lot from EU aid,” Lyonchhen told the EU Commissioner.

EU has been extending substantial assistance and development cooperation to Bhutan since 1982, states a release from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The release goes on to say the EU’s support has proven to be constructive in alleviating poverty, uplifting RNR and agriculture sector, and strengthening democracy in Bhutan.

Lyonchhen also thanked the Commissioner for increasing EU assistance in Bhutan by committing €42 MN in grant under a Multi-Annual Indicative Programme, recently.

Commissioner Piebalgs said EU is committed to supporting Bhutan in all its future endeavours.

Lyonchhen and Commissioner Piebalgs discussed ways of coming up with more diverse and innovative measures toward addressing economic difficulties.
