Health ministry prepares to keep Ebola out of BhutanThe Ministry of Health will have preventive measures well in place, especially at the Paro International Airport, and within two weeks to keep Ebola out of Bhutan. Bhutan gets tourists from all over the world.

The health ministry has already briefed the stakeholder-agencies like the Department of Civil Aviation, Drukair, Bhutan Airlines, Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) and Immigration department to put in place precautionary measures.

The Paro Airport will have two infrared cameras to detect fever among the passengers entering and leaving the country. If any passenger is found to have high fever, they will have to go through a thorough examination.


“We are going to train the crews how to handle if there is case in the aircraft. We have also developed the protocols to fill in by all the passengers,” said the Director General of the Department of Public Health, Dr. Dorji Wangchuk.

He said it will be mandatory for the passengers to state in a form, where they are coming from. “We are also going to modify the Paro arrival lounge at the old terminal.”

The health ministry will soon distribute the protective gears for officials at the airport who would be doing the quarantine task. Also, the infection control system will be set up at Paro, Phuentshogling and Samdrup Jongkhar hospitals.
