Schools across the country celebrate Global Handwashing Day

GlobalHandwashingDay-The schools across the country celebrated the sixth annual Global Handwashing Day, today. The schools spread awareness on the benefits of washing hands with soaps.

Jigme Losel Primary School took the lead. Over 400 students, including the Principal and teachers, of Jigme Losel Primary School went around the capital seeking donations. They also distributed Global Handwashing Day pamphlets to the people.

The school had donated more than 2,800 soaps to the remote schools last year.

This time, the school was able to collect over Nu.100,000 and 2,400 soaps within two hours. The money collected will be used for buying soaps. The school plans to send half of the soaps collected to the monastic schools in remote parts of the country.

The first Global Handwashing Day took place in 2008. It is a campaign to motivate and mobilise millions of children to wash their hands with the soap.
