No gynecologist in Dewathang hospital since 2012

NoGyno-DeewathangHospitalThe people of Dewathang are in need of a gynecologist. Although, the Health Ministry approved their proposal, Dewathang hospital is yet to receive a gynecologist, say the local residents.

The hospital had an expatriate gynecologist until 2012, but he left after the contract expired. Since then, the need for a new gynecologist was raised several times in the Dzongkhag Tshogde but to no avail.

Some villagers said that they have to travel all the way to Trashigang and Monggar hospital for gynecological services. Some visit hospitals across the border in India.

Till September this year, the hospital saw a total of 114 pregnancy cases out of which 23 were referred to other dzongkhags. The dzongkhag health officer said they are aware of the problem and are accordingly working on it. He added the Ministry has promised to send one by the end of this year.

Today, there are only two Gynecologists in the eastern region, one in Monggar and other in Trashigang hospital.
