Move for Health Walk collects over Nu. 2 million

MoveforHealth-2014The Move for Health Walk received  donation amounting to over Nu. 2.4 mn for the Bhutan Health Trust Fund.

The Move for Health Walk flagged off from Khasadrupchu at around 8:30 AM, yesterday.

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, led the health walk from Khasadrapchu till the Clock Tower Square, in the capital. The Opposition Leader, some of the Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Parliament and the senior government officials also joined hundreds of other participants for the walk.

The walk is to promote healthy lifestyle and to raise funds for the Bhutan Health Trust Fund.


Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister spoke on the importance of healthy lifestyle. At the clock tower square, various organizations, agencies, ministries and individuals handed over their donation for the Bhutan Health Trust Fund.

According to the Health officials, Bhutan Heath Trust Fund will have to take up the full financing by 2015, when the global alliance for vaccines and immunization pulls out.

The cost of essential drugs for the financial year 2014-15 is said to be Nu.182mn. Today, the Bhutan Health Trust Fund has about Nu. one billion.

Since its operation in 2003, the Bhutan Health Trust Fund has been supporting the procurement of vaccines. It has also been co-financing the procurement of Pentavalent vaccines with Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, since 2009.

Move for Health Walk was first initiated by the former health minister, Sangay Ngedup, in 2002 raising almost US$ 2 mn.
