Strengthening trade relations with Bangladesh

MoEAMinister-Commerce Minister of Bangladesh-Tofail Ahmed. The Economic Affairs Minister, Norbu Wangchuk, met the Commerce Minister of Bangladesh, Tofail Ahmed today.


The two held discussions on a number of trade related issues and on how to further promote and strengthen trade between the two countries.

One of the important issues discussed was establishing interconnectivity between Bhutan and Bangladesh.

Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk said Bhutan had made several requests to Bangladesh to consider allowing Bhutan to use its inland water ways especially in Chittagong and Mongla areas. Bangladesh has assured that it will look into the request.

Lyonpo said access to waterways would make export of commodities to Bangladesh not only convenient but cheaper as well.


Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk and the Bangladeshi Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed also discussed about the possible export of boulders from Bhutan to Bangladesh.

The two ministers also discussed on the possibility of signing free trade agreement between Bhutan and Bangladesh.
