NC holds its inaugural session

NC holds its inaugural session-May162014The National Council held its inaugural session later this afternoon. It was also attended by Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Speaker Jigme Zangpo and Health Minister Tandin Wangchuk.

The current session will see the National Council deliberate on the issues from the Dzongkhag Tshogdu meetings. The upper house will also table the Office of Attorney General Amendment Bill 2014, the Local Government Amendment bill 2014 and the National Assembly Amendment bill 2014.

Right to Information Bill of Bhutan 2014 and the Budget and Appropriation bill 2014 to 2015 will also be deliberated.

The National Council will also look at the Anti-Corruption Report 2013 and the Pay Commission’s report.

The Chairperson of the National Council, Dasho Dr. Sonam Kinga, in his inaugural address, underlined the need to strengthen National Council as an effective and meaningful institution in the democratic set up.

The Chairperson reminded the members that as one year passed by, it is timely to reflect and assess whether one has worked towards fulfilling people’s aspirations.
