His Holiness the Je Khenpo consecrated a Chenrezig Thongdrel at the Nobgang Lhakhang in Punakha, yesterday. Her Majesty the Queen Mother Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck graced the consecration ceremony. Thousands of devotees had gathered to receive blessings and offer prayers.
The 35-feet tall and 55-feet wide Thongdrel was contributed by two private individuals from Nobgang village in Talo. The Thongdrel cost more than Nu.3 million.
The Principal of Nobgang Lhakhang, Tandin, said the Thongdrel will be unfurled once a year.
The 258-year-old Nobgang Lhakhang is located about 20 kilometres uphill from Khuruthang town.
