Biometric System suspended

biometricFive days after the biometric system was introduced by the Department of Immigration at Paro International Airport, it has been withdrawn and suspended.

This was done after registration procedures took longer than usual. The Director General of the department, Thinley Wangchuk, said t the system required fine-tuning. He also the officials needed time to get accustomed to the new system.

Thinley Wangchuk said the space – where incoming passengers had to wait for registration – also added to the problems.

When two or more flights fly in, the space is not able to accommodate all passengers.  The Director General said the data from the old system also needs to be linked to the new system and computers at the counters also need upgrading.

A date has not been set as to when the new system will resume operation. Thinley Wangchuk said it would probably be after the problems are taken care of.

The new Biometric registration system was introduced at the Airport on March 12.
