Border co-ordination meeting discusses sharing real time information

border-meeting-2Sharing real time information on the cross-border illegal activities was one of the main discussions at the 22nd Border Districts Co-ordination Meeting, BDCM, with the West Bengal stage government held last week. The meeting emphasized that mechanisms, which are already in place between the two countries to share information would be strengthened.

According to a press release the meeting covered wide range of issues from security to other vital matters of common concern impacting the lives of peoples on either side of the border such as on trade, economy, drugs, environment and other social issues.

“The meeting also discussed on security threat posed by different militant groups like KLO and militants from camps in eastern Nepal and other cross border illegal activities viz. illicit transport of timber, illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and kidnapping of persons,” reads the press release.

The Bhutanese delegation was led by the Director of Bureau of Law and Order, Karma Tsering Namgyal, and the Indian delegation was led by the IAS Commissioner of the Jalpaiguri Division, R.D. Meena.
