The power tariff revision came into effect in October, last year. For High Voltage (HV) consumers, the rate was revised to Nu. 2.09 per unit from Nu. 1.17. Unhappy with the new rate, the private sector had asked the government to intervene and a task force was formed.
The task force, in turn, asked the private sector to come up with numbers that would support their argument. The private sector’s argument is that industries will have to shut down in a few years if they are to pay the revised rates.
