Cyclone Phailin causes minimal impact

Cyclone-PhailinThe preliminary report from the Department of Disaster Management says no major impact has been reported despite continuous light rainfall for three days in Haa. Katsho and Tshaphel Lower Secondary Schools have declared holiday due to accumulation of water in the school ground.

In Sarpang, no major damage has been reported. The roof of a house in Rai Dara had been blown off and dzongkhag administration has deputed officials to verify it.

Chhukha is still experiencing continuous rainfall coupled with windstorm. A report from the Department of Disaster says, it is likely to have some impact but no damages have been reported as of now.

The preliminary report also says Dzongkhag Administration is sending teams to assess the damages caused to the paddy fields.

Lhuentse experienced some rain but the Dzongkhag Administration has not received any reports on problems being faced by pilgrims in Singye Dzong.

The Department of Disaster Management says no damage report has come in from the rest 15 dzongkhags. However, the Dzongkhags have informed there is possibility of damages to crops, especially paddy, if the rainfall continues for another few days.

All Dzongkhags have been requested to keep the Department informed if there are any escalating situations due to rainfall and windstorm in the next few hours or days.
