His Majesty attends Dasami Tikka

HMHis Majesty the King and the Gyaltsuen attended the Dasami Tikka ceremony at the Hindu temple near the Thai Pavalion in Thimphu, yesterday. Dashain is the biggest festival in the Hindu calendar.

Upon arrival at the temple His Majesty was received by the members of the Hindu Sambodhaya of Bhutan led by the Information and Communication minister D.N.Dhungyal.

Once inside the temple, His Majesty and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen attended the prayer followed by Tikka ceremony.

Dashain is one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals. It is celebrated with the exchange of best wishes, and blessings from elders of the family in the form of Tikka.

Hindu believes that Kings and Queens to be the incarnations of Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi. The 15 day celebration is timed so that it ends on the day of the full moon.

The ceremony started on the first day of the new moon and will conclude on the 9th day, also known as Navami, which symbolizes the end of war against evils. On Dasumi or the 10th day, Tikka is offered as victory of good over evil.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister TsheringTobgay and some of the cabinet ministers also attend the ceremony.
