A cyclone wreaked havoc and destruction in Zhemgang at around 8.30 -9:00 pm, on Saturday. Villagers say, the cyclone lasted for about 45 minutes.
According to our reporter, Pema Samdrup, in Zhemgang, roofs of several houses were blown off and crops destroyed in three different gewogs in Zhemgang.
At least ten houses’ roofs were blown off in Nangkhor Gewog, several acres of paddy and maize fields were damaged. The RNR hall and Early Child Care and Development centre were partially damaged.
In Phangkhar Gewog, one house is reported damaged, along with several crops.
In Bardo gewog, roofs of two traditional houses were blown off and maize crops were damaged in three different Chiwogs of Bardo Gewog.
Of the total houses damaged, five have been severely damaged.
Meanwhile, the Dzongkhag Disaster Group is already at the site, and carrying out relief works. Temporary shelters have been arranged and damages are being accessed.
There are no reports of causality.
