His Holiness makes two appointments

Khenpo Ugyen Namgyel

His Holiness the Je Khenpo made two appointments in the Zhung Dratshang, today. Khenpo Ugyen Namgyel, 48, from Kurtoe has been appointed the “Leytsok Drungchen” or Secretary of Estate Development of the Zhung Dratshang, and Khenpo Sonam Bumdhen from Trongsa, the “Tsulag Drungchen” or Secretary of Education of the Zhung Dratshang.

Khenpo Ugyen Namgyel has a Masters Degree in Indian Philosophy and Religion from Benaras Hindu University, and has travelled widely as an international coordinator and interpreter, and even given a series of Buddhist lectures.

Khenpo Sonam Bumdhen, 40, has a Masters Degree in Religious Studies and Contemplative World Religions from Naropa University in the US. Khenpo Sonam has been a Dharma Teacher at the Kailua Shambala Centre in Hawaii and prior to his new appointment, was the Director of Research and Library of the Zhung Dratshang.
