Story of a unique village

Salipong-Village--MonggarNo one knows when exactly, the tiny village, with just about 12 people came into existence. Located in Monggar Dzongkhag under Salambi Gewog, Salipong village is unique to its true sense.

The inception of their existence has been lost to their isolation. The hidden village takes about five hours, hike from Salimbi and Nagor.  Salimbi and Nagor are the nearest villages to the road head.

From what is believed to be the consequence of inter-marriage, most of the inhabitants of this isolated village can neither talk nor hear. Of the four households in the village, the entire family members of the two households are speech and hearing impaired.

According to the elderly people, BBS spoke to, the impairment have been passed down to three generations.

Over the years, they have learnt to fend for themselves. In fact, the daily challenges that come along with the impairment, haven’t fazed them from their zeal to life, according to a few, from the nearby villages.

The inhabitants of the tiny village tilt their land and raise cattle. They also have poultry. They now have access to clean drinking water. Works to electrify their village are underway.

They also receive Nu. 800 each from His Majesty the King as Kidu-Soelra, every month.
