Nation-wide awareness programme on postal ballot

AwarenessProg--Postal-BallotThe Election Commission of Bhutan carried out a nation-wide awareness programme on postal ballot with armed force personnel and their families, today. Awareness creation was thought to be necessary after thousands of postal ballots were rejected during the National Council Elections.

Many in the armed forces and their families avail postal ballots as they are not able to vote in person.

Officials from the election commission of Bhutan briefed hundreds of members of the armed forces on the procedures involved with postal ballots. Awareness is being created to minimise mistakes and reduce chances of rejection in the upcoming National Assembly elections.

In Trongsa, over a hundred postal ballots were rejected as they were not posted following postal ballot guidelines. Also, more than a hundred postal ballots were rejected in Bumthang because many of them had not sealed their envelopes.

In the capital, at least 600 members of the armed forces and their families were sensitised.
