A former diplomat and the current president of the Druk Chirwang Tshogpa, Lily Wangchhuk, was among 15 women from across the globe honored as one of the Top Global Women of 2013.
She is the first Bhutanese woman to make it to the list.
The Diplomatic Courier, a global affairs magazine on diplomacy and foreign policy based in the United States, bestowed this honor on Lily Wangchhuk on International Women’s Day on 8th March.
Lily Wangchhuk was recognized for being the first woman in Bhutan to lead a party in the 2013 elections, and for her commitment to addressing a number of social issues.
Lily Wangchhuk said she is deeply humbled to receive such an honour and that it gives her immense pride as a Bhutanese to be included on the list.
