Bangladesh’s Premier hosts dinner in honour of His Majesty the King

Their Majesties in traditional Bangladeshi attireThe Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina hosted a dinner in honour of His Majesty the King and the Gyaltsuen, last evening. The dinner was hosted at Gonobhaban, the Prime minister’s residence.

For the occasion, His Majesty the King and the Gyaltsuen wore traditional Bangladeshi attire, presented to their Majesties by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Their Majesties were welcomed with a cultural performance that also included a special modern Bhutanese song.

Other guests at the dinner included the family members of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, and officials from the Bhutanese delegation and the Bhutanese Embassy in Bangladesh.

Today, His Majesty granted an audience to the Leader of the Opposition and the Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Begum Khaleda Zia.

Earlier, their majesties also toured the river Padma on the boat Shakti Sanchar operated by the 14th independent engineering brigade of the Bangladesh Army.

This is His Majesty’s second visit to Bangladesh after his coronation. His Majesty visited the country in March 2011 as the Guest of Honour for the 40th Independence Day celebration of Bangladesh.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh visited Bhutan in November 2009, soon after being elected Prime Minister, earlier that year, and again during the 16th SAARC summit in 2010.

Diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Bangladesh were officially established in 1973.
