Maintenance of roads falling under the municipal area in Damphu town in Tsirang district is an issue.
Commuters travelling from Tsirang to Gelephu are happy with the black topping of the Darachu and Labsey Kotay road. However, the people in Damphu town complain about being inconvenienced. They said the black topping work did not consider other connecting roads, and authorities should do something about it.
The Department of roads in Damphu says their responsibility was to black top only the highway and not the road which falls under the municipal area. The Municipal office, on the other hand, says that works are ongoing and that they have requested the DOR to maintain the junctions.
The Municipal office in Damphu said it is not capable of such maintenance due to budget constraints at the moment.
The Executive Engineer at the Municipal office, Tashi Chophel, shared there is an allocated budget for road maintenance under the municipal area in the Eleventh Five Year Plan. He said there are big plans for roads in Damphu town.
