ADR Bill tabled for discussion in the NA

ADRBillTo revive the age old tradition of settling disputes without resorting to court, the National Assembly today tabled the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Bill for discussion.

Introducing the bill, the Economic Affairs Minister, Khandu Wangchuk, said the bill would help solve disputes informally. He said the informal procedure will prove convenient for the people. “With the Bill in place we can preserve our tradition of settling things without having to take it to the court. The court has to look into so many cases. And they can’t give much time to individual cases.

“Resorting to this kind of settlement can also reduce time, money and will be of much benefit to the people and the country as a whole.”

Lyonpo also said the Bill proposes for the establishment of a non-governmental body called the Bhutan Alternative Resolution Centre. The Centre will be an NGO and is proposed to remove government’s interference in dispute resolutions.

The members of the parliament supported the Bill for discussion. They also proposed for the Bill to be endorsed within this session.
