A 29-year-old man from Punakha has been detained by the Wangduephodrang police for an alleged rape of a 16-year minor. The suspect was detained on Monday.
The minor’s older sister had lodged a complaint with the police after she had gone missing on February 2. A search team organised by the police found the girl near Bajothang town. She had not gone home for the fear of getting reprimanded by her older sister.
In a statement to the police, the minor said the man had forced himself on her. But the suspect maintains that it was an act of consensual.
The suspect is a married man.
