Do away with Pedestrian day: BCCI

The Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) submitted three recommendations to the government regarding Pedestrian Day in a meeting yesterday.

The BCCI suggested the Government to either do away with the Pedestrian Day, or to observe the day, only once a year, or to observe the day on the first Sunday of every month without a single vehicle movement.

The Agriculture and Forests Minister, Dr. Pema Gyamtsho, briefed the members of the business community on the objectives behind observing the Pedestrian Day. Lyonpo said, a committee has been employed to look into the problems faced by the people, and the committee has been coming up with solutions like allowing tourist vehicles on the Day.

Lyonchhoen Jigmi Y Thinley said it is important to know that observing the Pedestrian Day is a small contribution towards saving environment. “If the business community still feels that Pedestrian Day is affecting their businesses, the Cabinet will look into the matter,” said the Prime Minister.
